Makeup is an art. A well trained artist can create a magic in a woman’s face with the use of some colors and brushes. Makeup is nothing but colors and how you apply them. The pigmentation of skin, hair and eyes determine the color category of a person. In other words, you can select your clothes, makeup according to your skin color.

Each skin complexion has been assigned a name of the season. For instance, fair is considered spring season, medium skin tone is called summer season; tan complexion is known as fall, dark/rich skin tone is called winter season. Whatever the season may be, putting on the makeup has certain principles and rules which one must adhere to in order to achieve that gorgeous look.

It is strictly prohibited to use some one else mascara or eyeliner on your eyes. Being one of the most sensitive parts of our body, eyes remain very receptive to microbes which could easily be transferred from your eyes to other or vice versa through these cosmetic applications.

Makeup lasts longer if it is applied on the moisturized skin. In fact, before going to bed, moisturize your skin as it keeps skin wrinkle free.

The shelf life of these cosmetic products must be kept in mind especially of eye products such as eye liner, mascara etc.

The sponges and brushes may contain bacteria. These must be washed regularly and should be replaced every month.

Do not forget to relieve your skin of makeup before going to bed. Makeup dries skin and further causes premature wrinkles to the skin.

After having learnt the few essentials of makeup application on your skin, it is time to see the makeup dos and don’ts. In order to have the successful makeover, few makeup rules are to be followed.

The right foundation is the one which is closet to your skin tone. Test the small quantity on the edge of your face, or side of your chin, and on the neck during the day light and see if it has merged well with your skin tone.  

Eyeliner should be of fine quality. If you are unable to apply a straight line with eyeliner, use eye pencil instead. Eye pencils are comparatively easy to use and do not require clear-cut lines.

Eye shadow colors can make you look old-fashioned easily. Picking up a right color of cosmetic to compliment the skin or eye color is essential in eye makeup. It is outdated when blue eyed people would have preferred blue eye shadow. It is obsolete to match the color of eye shadow with the dress color. Today’s generation prefers contrasting colors.

Applying more coats of mascara depends on the quality of mascara. If the mascara is already thick, restrain yourself in applying more coats as it will form a clump on your eye lashes. Use of an eyelash curler is advisable.

Never use the dark lip pencils to outline lips. Instead use a natural color or similar color of lip liner to outline the lips.

Do not ignore neck while applying makeup on cheeks.

Matching lipstick with nail paint is a personal choice however; never go overboard with these cosmetics. A good combination of nail paint and lipstick would be- dark red nails and beige lips would look great.

Finally, a good makeup mirror is all what is required to give you the closet view to find out the minute errors of your makeup.

Once you have attained the awareness on the basic rules of makeup, you can bring about a makeover of your personality by applying right colors. Don’t be scared of experiments, makeup is not everlasting. If you do not like it- simply wash it off and remember that a master piece was not created in one day.
